Causes of Constipation

Constipation is one of those things most people don't think about until it happens to them. It is about as enjoyable to talk about with others as colon cleansing is. Yet, it is a common thing in today's fast-paced society most likely brought on by the foods we eat and the lifestyle we live.

Eating foods like dairy, meat and eggs, that are high in animal fats or eating alot of refined sugar without also eating things high in fiber are definately the way to get constipation. Lack of adequate fluid intake and by that I mean good old fashioned plain water. Most people do not drink enough of it. A very large percentage of the human body is made of water, so it just makes sense that your body needs water to survive, let alone to help properly pass fecal matter out of the body.

Other ways that constipation can be brought on is from lack of physical activity, pregnancy, age or illness. Many medications today also cause constipation but don't get me started on the side effects of the prescription drugs today that are worse than whatever it is they are designed to treat. That is a whole other subject there. I also know that travel on long trips used to cause me to be constipated but I am guessing it was probably the change in routine like less water, less physical activity and eating fast food along the way.

Some people only occasionally suffer from constipation while other unfortunately have dealt with it for years. Changes in your lifestyle might be the best way to deal with constipation. Some use stool softeners but you shouldnt rely on them too often because they can cause problems and the same goes for prescription medication. Since there are just too many side effects to these options, I much more prefer the natural approach.

Drinking lots of water, eating right whenever possible and cleansing the colon every season keeps things regular and working as they should. Regular exercise, especially walking is very important.
