How To Lose Weight - Common Nutrition And Exercise Mistakes
The basic premise of how to lose belly fat is actually very simple - take in less energy each day than you need to use. However, people and their lives are a lot more complex than that, so achieving this simple equation is also complex. The lives of people today are much busier than they used to be; very few people have the time for daily shopping, meal preparation, and long gym sessions.
Many people see a quick fix by drinking a couple of meal replacements each day. However, this is not a good idea. When a person consumes too few calories for several days in a row then their body assumes that food has become scarce. As a result muscle is broken down and energy requirements are reduced. This means that fat loss actually becomes slower and more difficult.
Fad diets and diets that restrict one particular food group are also a bad idea. The main way that they work is that a person has little choice in the foods that they can eat so they get bored and so eat less. Unfortunately these diets often mean that a full range of nutrients is not eaten. Missing out on a nutrient for a day or two will not harm a person, but over a longer term a body needs a variety of different foods.
A good diet for fat burning will be based on plenty of vegetables and fruits that are as fresh as possible. Small amounts for nuts, daily and lean protein are then added, and the diet finished off with whole grains. A diet of this type will ensure that all the necessary vitamins, minerals and micro nutrients are supplied, and enough fiber is eaten to maintain digestive efficiency and health.
Weight training or resistance training is also very helpful for fat loss. Giving the muscles a significant work out will discourage the body from using them as a source of fuel. Weight training also causes a rise in the metabolism for some time after the exercise session is ended.
Cardiovascular work is also a good idea for people who want to lose fat. It doesn't have to be hours spent on a treadmill, the best cardio work outs are based on interval training. Working at a high intensity for a short time, then spending time working in a more gentle way to recover and repeating this pattern a few times helps make this process efficient. An example would be sports like soccer or something similar.
Another activity to consider is yoga. The mechanism by which this helps when losing fat is not yet fully understood (although plenty of people have a pet theory!). However, it can help, and in addition, it has further benefit in its ability to make a person look more attractive.
There are no magic pills or quick fixes when someone wants to know how to lose belly fat in a sustainable way. But following a good diet and exercise program will mean that fat loss is efficient and healthy.
